The Mike Murley Trio featuring Reg Schwager and Steve Wallace: Playing standard tunes; it’s about the melody!
The members of the Mike Murley Trio have toured and performed with some of the most well known names in mainstream jazz, including legendary figures such as Oscar Peterson, George Shearing and Rob McConnell. As a group the trio continues to explore the tradition of playing the American standard songbook.
In this workshop the trio will discuss and demonstrate their approach to improvising on standards. Respecting the song’s melody and conveying a strong sense of lyricism and swing are the fundamental elements of the group’s sound. Jazz improvisation can seem complex to many listeners but when it comes to playing standards it is about the melody!
