Catahoula Brown writes songs. Songs about real life. Songs that will make you laugh...songs that will make you cry. Catahoula Brown recorded his first album aptly named 'Cur Dog Blues' (a Catahoula dog is known as a 'cur' in Louisiana), is a collection of gritty songs about trains, frustration and love.
In 2007, he recorded the anticipated follow-up CD, 'Let That Boy Boogie', which sounds like it was recorded in some "Mississippi juke joint", instead of an intimate Halifax recording studio. The album was nominated by both the East Coast Music Association, as well as Music Nova Scotia, for 'Blues Recording of the Year'. In 2014, Brown went back into the studio to record 'Can't Hide From The Blues', a raw swampy mix of ten original songs so influenced by New Orleans, you can almost smell the Gumbo cooking. Once again he received a nomination for 'Blues Recording of the Year'. |

Test of Time
This group is a quartet consisting of John Bird on keyboard and saxes, Paul Marshall on guitar, Clark Beisele on bass and Wendy Oxley on vocals. We do jazz standards and occasionally break into original material that we think lends itself to the jazz idiom. As a quartet we are relatively new but we have pooled our talents from years of working and playing with others in similar groups. We are particularly fond of trying standard tunes with a different twist and sometimes 'new' lyrics. |
Quintz Jam

This group is a little unusual in that there is no regular vocalist or drummer. Instead of multiple verses the group features woodwind solos to add variety and colour to their selections. The music is drawn from a wide span of time from baroque to bossa and be-bop to contemporary jazz standards. |
